Hi, my name is Kate

Posted in Group:

How's that for an awkward, to the point introduction? I never know how to properly introduce myself so I tend to err on the side of humor. I bet you all would like to know a little bit about me and why I'm here. Here goes.....

I am a happily (sometimes) married 29 year old with two boys, ages 3 and 4. My husband and I will be graduating from our reapective graduate programs this coming May; Civil Engineering for him and a Law Degree for me. Yep, I'm in my last semester of law school which is exciting and overwhelming all at the same time.

I joined this community purely for the fact that I know how imparitive group therapy is during Recovery. I have struggled with anorexia purging subtype for the last 15 years. I was admitted to Remuda Ranch in high school, UCLA eating disorder program in College, and I've had two separate admissions to The Center for Change during law school. In fact, I recently discharged in late January.

Having the companionship of other women who knew exactly what I was thinking or feeling or at least understood it, or who knew when I was engaging in behaviors and kindly helped keep me accountable, is what truly has kept me excited at the potential full recovery from this nasty disease. The group atmosphere helped me so much while I was in IP, I was crushed to find out my Podunk college town doesn't have groups let alone an outpatient clinic. Thankfully I found the absolute best providers for my treatment team, but collaborately we decided I needed to seek out different avenues for group therapy, with online being one of them.

So, here I am, giving it a shot.

Hi Kate,
My name is Patsy. Welcome. I too believe 100 % in the power of being part of pro recovery group. I love therapy and all the other tools in the get better box, but the accountability and compassion I get just from being here online makes the big difference in my ability to let go of behaviors that have had me in lock down for so long.
I knew this when I went away a year ago. I was doing fine, so why keep posting? Alas, I again was not doing fine and was completely isolated in my "disease".
